Blog Entry ( 10 ) New Post ( Here's Smoking at You, Kid

 In an article excerted from Nicholas Balakar, " Imitation Of Film: Here's Smoking at you, kid. There was a
survey  from a November issue of Pediatrics reports that adolescents raging from an age of 10 threw 14 have watched and copied what they saw on t.v. like smoking cigarettes and watching " R" rated movies.Also
Dr. Sargeant quotes " possibility that smoking began before the children saw these movies.When it came down to finding evidence, the truth is that adolescents imitated what they saw.

                                             Its not shocking that young adolescents imitate what they see from
actors on t.v. like smoking cigarettes.Example, When I was a child I remember being 13 years old and ploting with my friends how to stop a stranger on the streets and asking if he or she could spare a cigarette.
And we would eventually get it. my friends and I just wanted to experience the results witch ended in some of us getting sick and throwing up.


                                           To me it's not a surprise that young children do the darnest things and even sometimes imitate what they see.For example, I know that young children should not be watching " R" movies Beacause there will be a scene were someone will be naked or someone fornicating.For me, it was a thrill seeing woman undressing and having sex. And as  a child I wanted to experience how it felt doing those things I saw from the actors.


                                         In Conclusion , I say that young adolescents begin to experiment with cigarettes
even before they actually see actors on t.v. and there's a great chance they saw someone doing these and when it comes to watching "R" rated movies, children experiment with there own friends and kids there age because they saw it on t.v. or there friends want to see how its feels to do these things.


                                      

Blog Entry ( 8 ) The Allegory of The Cave and The Truman Show

After anlyzing the class readings and watching The Truman Show, I think that both compare to each other
because, It seems like the media and nation love the reality that takes place  in these shows like Truman and  The Jersey Shore. We all want to be tuned in and not miss a thing just like when The Truman show was on 24 hours a day. We want to see what's going to happen next its the thrill of reality and not the fiction.The Jersey Shore people watch because nothing is fiction everything is real and the party's and the drinking always leads to something.Just like in an episode when Snuky got punched in the face and that made the show more populer.


                                   From my experiences, my friends talk about Reality Shows more than what's happening in there live's. It getting to a point where one day t.v. will be nothing but Reality t.v. Every channel you tune into,We the people depend alot alot on something happening to someone and the rults to be negative even if the situation ends up being fatal. I remember having a  friend of mine back when I was in High School and getting a dispute over him stealing someone's bookbag, and he telling the other person that he was not the one who took it. Mean while someone in the crowd was yelling hit him, fight him, the other kids just wanted to see something happen.

                                   So, Eventually they began fighting and when the it ended, one of the students said, hey, you left your bookbag in the gymnasium. The media love's when they can provide Reality t.v. to us because that will raise there ratings and more people will watch the show next time.I think that regalur t.v. or fictional t.v. does not cut it no more. Fictional t.v. is in a way similar to Reality t.v. like when something happens, but its not as exciting as Reality t.v. waiting on the next climaxe to happen.

 Comparing my life to the life that Christoff created for Truman which was perfect in Christoff's mind.
no violence, minimal chaos,  and being stuck in a socluded island sounds horrible.I say no, I would not like to live in a place like seahaven. But sometimes I think of being in a place like that. What I mean by that is with all I have going on know in my life as far as, attending college, working part-time, trying to purchase a home here in queens and dealing with life's obsticles, It can gets very tireyng. Sometimes it feels like I have the world on my shoulders and its getting heavier and heavier..But it takes time and sacrafice to be were one wants to be. So like I said I would not like to live in Seahaven.Cause I want to experience life, I want to go threw up and down's. I see the world just like when Truman wanted to live Seahaven. In the end all I want is to see how far I can go and with me putting 100% into the needs and wants that i desire.

I say comparing Socrate's description of the cave is interesting because been chained and not having a clue how this world can treat you and Socrate's description can be similar to each other..For example life inside the cave is a dimmed light, which is the fire. objects that you can only hear and see through images. Life is wonderful but you never know what you  are going to get. Its very scary not knowing how will you survive and how the world will treat you. But, the world is a huge place  just like when he left the cave and started to explore new places. Seeing new things and going through experiences make you stronger.


  At what stage am I at?...Still chained? I am in a  place I though I would never see myself  in. Attending college, going through new experiences just like when they released the cave man into the world. Yes, i am in amsement, because when one begings to see the world in a whole different light its wonderful to experience these stages. What evidence supports my claim?. The evidence by coming to LaGuardia and learning and seeing new things is a whole new adventure for me. Going through up and down as far as academically and seeing myself  excited just like the cave man when he came back to tell his friends which were still in the cave, how he has seen new things. Where do I think I am. I am in a place were  I only can grow, become that person that i always wanted to be. Educated, with a good job and seeing myself grow in time.
Where am I palnning to go...I am planning on going to where my heart takes me.I have a plan and it starts here, I want to see the world and experience thinsg that I thought I would never see. Its makee you think about the life you live and were one wants to be in the future.

In an article written by Jeffrey Kluger, " I know the truth, So dont bother me with facts." That people dont like to be wrong when they are being corrected even thoe the facts are there.for example, If I was painting my room with the color red, and you say its maroon and I ask five people what color is on the wall. Everybody says red! nobody likes to be wrong. Just like the rumor that was going around that a mosque was going to be built on ground zero.         when this rumor started to catch attention, people where angry and discusted even started a protest that this was a sacred place and it should be respected.But in fact the mosque was not actually being built were the twin towers stood.People just herd rumors and right away thats when the problems begin. 

For example When the plains hit tower ( 1 ) and ( 2) there was a rumor going around that the towers structure were to strong, there is no way a plane could take out these mega structures. Also that not the Talibans were responsible for the fallings of the towers but the Americans.supposely, the planes were flown by remote control.It seems that when people are shown the facts, the evidence is not enove to tell the story.

 Upon futher review, R.Kelly Garrett indicates that when " studies showing that when subjects are presented with data that contradicts their beliefs they often respond by sticking to their  biases even more strongly". So if i tell you 4.4 = 16 and you keep telling me that is wrong. It quotes " Some investigators are looking deeper, conducting studies of the brain  to see how the prefrontal cortex, the seat of the reason.

1) What did you get from thinking about annotations with the class? It helped me understand better the material, Also how to read and re-read the material and critically to a text . How to agree or disagree with the material and list things to life experiences.
2) What did I get from writing annotations for “ is Google making us Stupid?” with your partner? First, we discussed the material, then we debated on the topic is Google making us stupid, and describe a new perspective on the subject.
3)What did you learn about the reading by annotating it? I actually learn different methods in how to write a proper essay and base it on different things, and underline main points.Also words that I don’t know to look them up in the dictionary
4) How may annotating make you a better writer? For me it will make me a better writer by understanding the material and understanding what I’m reading and looking for the main idea.
Understanding what I’m doing is extremely important because it will help me understand the material better
